Baseballs
A baseball is a small, curved, stitched surface. Phil has engraved them, and the layout is planned around the panels and seams of the actual ball.
Baseball bats
Bats give a long, narrow engraving area that suits names, dates, team lists and a short message running with the grain.
Cricket stumps
Customer-supplied cricket stumps can be assessed for names, dates, team details or presentation messages, depending on the material, finish and usable engraving area.
Customer-supplied sporting items
Other sporting items you already own can be assessed individually. Material, shape, finish and usable area decide what is possible.
Awards, trophies and presentations
Recognition pieces engraved with a recipient, a category, a season and the club or organisation presenting them.
Club recognition and sporting gifts
Life memberships, coaching thank-yous, retirement pieces and one-off gifts that mean something to the person receiving them.
Phil does not supply every sporting item or trophy. Most projects start with an item the customer already has, or one the club has sourced for a specific presentation.

The item is unusual and nobody else will touch it
Odd shapes, stitched surfaces, used equipment and sentimental items are assessed on their merits rather than refused by default.
A season needs marking properly
Premierships, milestone games, best-and-fairest awards and farewells all benefit from something specific to the club and the year.
The item already carries meaning
A ball from a particular game or a bat used in a final matters more than anything bought new. Those items are handled carefully.
There is a fixed presentation date
Tell Phil the date of the presentation night when you first make contact so the project can be discussed realistically.
Nobody is sure what wording will fit
Names, dates and club details often need trimming to suit the engraving area. Phil works that out with you before anything is cut.

Assessing unusual items and the process
How an unusual sporting item is assessed
Sporting equipment varies enormously, so nothing is assumed. Each item is quoted individually after Phil has seen photographs and measurements.

Send clear photographs of the item from several angles before bringing or sending anything to the workshop.

Measurements and material
Provide approximate measurements and whatever you know about the material. Used equipment often differs from what the label suggests.

Usable engraving area is identified
Curves, stitching, grain, logos and wear all reduce the area available. Phil identifies what can realistically be used.

Suitability is confirmed honestly
If an item is not suited to engraving, Phil will say so rather than attempt it. Material compatibility is not assumed in advance.

Wording and layout are agreed
You confirm the exact spelling of names, dates and club details before any engraving begins.

Engraving, checking and handover
Phil engraves and checks the item himself, then arranges collection at Jamisontown or a careful return by an agreed method.
